I used ImageMagick to do the conversion:

   convert a.png -type Palette a2.png

and then again advpng to further reduce them. The result for the  
biggest non-palette PNGs was this:

That's between 33% and 50% of the original file size. However, in the  
case of scummvm_logo.png there is a very noticable quality loss.  
OTOH, for the heroes?.png files, the new files seem to be very very  
close to the original ones, so I feel we could safely replace those,  
saving 30-40kb for each full page reload (which is already quite a  
lot, isn't it? :-).



BTW something completely different: I just noticed that the  
"Documentation" and "Misc. Menu" side bars have the same background  
pic (from BASS). I wonder if Draven could make us a new (fourth)  
background to use for "Misc." ? Of course this is an extremly minor  
detail :-)
