I can't answer all the questions in your mail, but I believe I know
the answers to a couple... I'm sure people will correct me if I'm
wrong.
I wouldn't worry too much about getting mpeg2 working - it's
deprecated in the latest version - people should (I believe) be using
DXA instead.

It is indeed the fixed point version of Xiphs Ogg Vorbis decoder. As
such it contains the equivalent of libogg and libvorbis in one file.
