Yes, a tardist on IRIX is similar to a .rpm or .deb for the appropriate
linux distributions. It's installable with just a double click (and the
root password) and drops a symlink into /usr/bin and the Icon Catalog and
updates the file-type rule database.

Should the icon and package definition files go into dists/ ?
