What I am thinking is something like following:

  Sept 24th: Release start, bug lists published, testing announced
  Oct 5th: feature freeze on master
  Oct 12th: branch-1-4 created (in feature freeze), master unfrozen
  Oct 19th: feature freeze on ports
  Oct 27th: tagging
  Nov 4th: release
