[Scummvm-devel] P800 port - what steps should we take now?

YO folks,

the P800 port is still there, and it still violates our license by not
providing any source code for it. We have contacted the author several
times, respectfully asking him to fix this issue. He didn't, and he had
more than half a year.

Enough is enough. Today we got yet another bug report against this port
for which we don't have any source and hence no way to deal with bugs
in it.

I recommend that we now take harsher steps. E.g. doing what is
suggested here: http://www.fsf.org/licenses/gpl-violation.html. We can
ask the FSF for support in the worst case. The first steps we should
take is to send him a threatening email, stopping to be as polite and
civil as we were in our previous mails.

Doing a whois lookup on his domain name "dreo.org" reveals this
information.

Registrant ID:GODA-02090705
Registrant Name:Andreas Karlsson
Registrant Organization:onlajn.nu
Registrant Street1:Folkungag. 7
Registrant City:Gothenburg
Registrant State/Province:Not Applicable
Registrant Postal Code:411 02
Registrant Country:SE
Registrant Phone:+46.314268
Registrant Email:ns at onlajn.nu

I can't be 100% sure if that is really the same person, but the
information on http://dreo.org/p800/putty/ seems to confirm that the
escummvm "author" and Mr. Karlsson are one and the same. Maybe somebody
here from sweden could even call him (or maybe Endy or me could do
that; I live in the same timezone, after all).

Note: I am *not* happy about taking more aggressive steps in this
matter, but we *have* to defend our rights, and if this guy doesn't
react to friendly requests, he leaves us no other choice, IMO.

Bye,

Max
