If you sign up for a sourceforge account you will be able to submit a
patch to the patch tracker.  The code should probably be checking
whether the disk version is being used as well given the cd version does
not have protection.

Generally copy protection bypasses are only used if there is a
re-released version that had copy protection bypassed and hence users
don't have the needed information.
