Indeed :-). Eugene already covered most things in his reply, so I'll
only get in a few more words.

Definitely. While all the code is GPLed, we don't want to ship code
when the copyright holder of that code is not OK with it, at least if
we can avoid it.

To that end, it might be a good idea to coordinate a bit with us; we
can hold back a bit on changes in that area to give you some time to
gets things into CVS. Also, we could of course even incorporate a
non-finished port, and you could make incremental changes to it until
it works.
In other words: the sooner you open a patch tracker item with your work
on it, the sooner we know about it, can give you feedback on it etc.,
so the sooner it'll be official :-)

I.e. after that point you'd become a project member, with CVS write
access, and could maintain the port directly in CVS.
