[Scummvm-devel] Status inquery: Porters, Engine teams -- gearing up for 0.8.0

Yo folks,

I think it's getting time for a 0.8.0 release. Still no good docs in
sight; and the GUI still looks as it always did (mostly), and I kind
of have given up any hope, but well, we've got plenty other reasons
for the release... :-)

Before starting the usual release cycle, though, I'd like to query
our subteams whether we are actually ready or at least could be ready
soon... in particular, we have three new ports and two totally new
engines.

So please folks, I'd like to know the status (regarding
releasability) of the following things. Please tell me whether you
are good to go, and if not, how the chances are that you'll be in,
say, 2-3 weeks.

Ports
=====

* EPOC/Symbian port

* PS2 port

* AmigaOS 4 port

* and of course all the "old" ports, too! What about Palm, is that
compiler error still bugging you, chrilith?

Engines
=======

* SAGA engine: It seems it still has problems with non-english
versions of the games?

* Gob engine: Looks finished to me... has it been tested on systems
which are picky regarding data alignment yet?

Other
=====
Eugene apparently found somebody willing to work on the web layout. I
haven't heard back from Eugene yet, though. No idea if this is
realistic, but of course, it'd be cool if we could release 0.8.0 at
the same time we upgrade the website... alas, I am just dreaming :-)

The GUI... my cousin is a lazy fella (sorry Krest, but that's it ;-),
and apparently hasn't done any real work on GUI design <sigh>.
That'll teach me. If anybody else has a good idea where to find
somebody skilled at designing pixel game interfaces, please tell me
(it's so easy to find people who render 3D art for you these days,
but when it comes to making a layout in 256 colors, 320x200, zilch.
Even 640x480 at 16 bit seems to be "exotic" these days <sigh>).
If we had some good GUI artwork, I'd have some time right now to
incorporate it...

Cheers,
Max
