Yes, I specifically checked disassemble of spriteAddImageToList() function 
briefly in several later HE games (freddicove, mustard, samsfunshop, 
soccer2004) and in all cases it only passes along an argument of 1 for the 
imageNum. There is no sign of any function actually setting 
_spriteTable[spriteId].imglist_num so far either.
