Hi all,
Well on the subject of a new release, a 0.10.0 release gets my vote for
what's its worth :-). Things have moved on just a tad from 0.9.1 and a fresh
point release seems a good idea. The schedule seems rushed however ;).
There, that is the bit that people will read out the way. Now onto a bit of
a monologue about the ports I have been involved in :).
Looking to branch the 1st week of June does seem a little soon. Being
selfish, I could really use a little longer to track down the damm Virtual
Theatre port specific bugs down that stop proper saves working in BASS and
BS1 and get the low res DXA support going on the GP2X. Other then that I
have a handful of fixes and tweaks to the port I should commit to trunk so I
will try and do that ASAP. All told the GP2X port is in a fair shape so it
could be made release ready with some work. I try and get some more
pre-0.10.0 builds out in the wild.
Anyway, onto another thing that is wrangling me. What are we going to do
with the GP32 port? As a few of you know I tried to do a build of the
current code to produce a 0.9.1 release and failed, I hit to many snags with
things falling over and not building or even running when built. When I gave
out releases to testers even more things cropped up (simple SCUMM engine
games crashing out for example).
The issue for me is that the current GP32 code is fairly removed from my
older port code and I did not have the time to get really stuck in and
bottom out the bugs :(. During the 0.9.1 release Won Star went AWOL and I
have not been able to get in contact with him directly since to discuss the
issues or strategies for fixing them (I have seen him commit to some of the
Korean projects he is involved with so I assume he is ok just tied up with
other things).
What are other people's thoughts on the subject? There is still a small but
vocal demand for the GP32 port, I know that from the number of enquires I
have received about it, but most people seem to have moved to newer
platforms like the GP2X/PSP/WinCE et all. I am happy to give it another
look if there is demand but if I am going to have go at fixing it up I could
really use any offers of a hand (or any other contact details for Won Star
if any of the lead devs have them so I can try and regain contact with him)
as the GP32, the GP2X and my other projects would be a little much right now
if I hoped to get anything done in time for any sort of release ;).
Anyway,
Cheers for now,
John
