Well, all I can say is that I used the singular on purpose, as I was  
referring to the whole of ScummVM -- personally I'd argue that if you  
use "Engines", it should be "Collection of Graphic Adventure Engines  
plus backends" :-).

This is a completely independent matter. The description in the  
source file is mainly a short technical "description". While on the  
website, in the README or in the .desktop file, a "user readable"  
text is to be preferred.

Personally, I consider neither "Engine" nor "Interpreter" very "user  
readable", but then the whole concept of ScummVM is very confusing  
for many people. "Program which allows you to play certain old  
graphic adventure games" probably fits it best, but is too long.

Anyway, I don't really mind whether the .desktop file says  
"interpreter" or "engine" -- but the content of the legal headers in  
our source files definitely is not the deciding factor here :-).
