Maybe looking at <http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/gitworkflows.html> will be helpful, we can pick up some of the suggestions there.

Another question: The configure changes we've been talking about regarding --enable-release should be addressed. At least if want them to be in this release? There is an open pull request with some discussion.
