Actually that doesn't sound that bad, one can just specifiy the version 
like "SCI0 EGA" etc. in the extra description field and say use 
"mothergoose-sci0-ega" or something similar as default target.

How does that complicate the game descriptions? We already have a 
standard way for specifying game platforms, inclusively target name 
additions of platforms.
