Did anything ever come from this? Yotam, are you still interested in such a feature? If so, then (unless you just want to implement it right away :) I would recommend recording it someplace so it won't be forgotten. Maybe this could even be part of a GSoC task (so an entry on the "Open Tasks" list on the wiki might be appropriate); at the very least, I would recommend adding it to the TODO list on the Wiki, or submitting a feature request, including some of the ideas discussed in this thread.
