While the rsync approach that was suggested in the past likely won't work to sync the sites (AFAIK there is no rsync daemon running on our webserver, and we don't have free shell access to it either), various other options exist; since the demos don't change subtly, simply comparing file sizes should work. Many FTP clients provide a simple "mirror" or "sync" option, for example. E.g. lftp does.

Done :).
And to all team members who have FTP access to our HostEurope server: If you are still using FTP, I would like to urge you to switch to FTP-SSL instead, as plain FTP transmits all passwords in plaintext. Might be a good time to change your passwords, too, just in case.
Another thing: The file ownership system they use has changed (or rather, it will change for everybody in June, but one can opt-in to undergo the change now, which I just did). So if you had troubles with files being created via FTP not being writeable by the webserver and vice versa, these hopefully should be resolved now. If not, or if you have any other troubles, please contact me.

Well, I don't really know what an affordable price is for you, but just for reference, we pay 5 Euros / month and get 5 GB of space and unlimited bandwidth plus various other goodies (but I think we pay the domain separately). This is the "WebPack 3.0 L" on <http://www.hosteurope.de/produkte/WebPack>. Each GB extra costs us another 1 Euro / month for now, if we need a lot more, I'd switch to another of their bundles.
There are certainly cheaper offers out there, but I have good reasons to stay on HostEurope with my own stuff and ScummVM: they are great at deploying security updates; rock solid: no unannounced outages that I recall in several years (the announced ones are typically a few minutes in the middle of the night, for security upgrades of the webserver / php / etc.); they have a great and highly competent 24/7 support team. So, for me, they are worth every cent, at least for this type of stuff.
Unfortunately, most of their support pages as well as large parts of the admin interface are German only; but their 24h support is good at English, too, and all news email they send are bilingual. Still, even with Google translate I'd not recommend it if you don't know at least some German.

Cheers,
Max
