Dear students,
The coding phase of GSoC'20 is about to start, and I would like to use this
opportunity to remind you of several important expectations in terms of
communication.
I hope you all got yourself familiarized with this page:
https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=Summer_of_Code/Project_Rules
Remember, FAILING THESE KICKS YOU OUT FROM THE PROGRAM.
In short, you're expected to:
- GSoC is a full-time job. You expected to spend 12 weeks, 40 hours
each, working on your ScummVM-related tasks. You may negotiate with your
mentor how to distribute your time, but the expectation is 480 hours in
total
- Communicate with your mentor or co-mentor. If you do not communicate
with your mentors longer than 2 days without prior agreed notice, you're
failing out of the program prematurely
- Blog about your work. The minimum frequency is once per week. Also, no
exceptions unless agreed upon with your mentor *beforehand. *This is
your opportunity to share with the world your progress and achievements
- Commit often, commit early, commit atomically. It is not acceptable to
stay for several days without any commit, again, exceptions must be agreed
with your mentor
- While you work, be present (visibly) on Discord. The best approach is
to say "hi" when you start working and say goodbye when you leave. Of
course, react to any messages directed to you, both public and private
during your working hours
I wish you further success with your projects and hope you enjoy hacking
with us.
Eugene
