Hi Team,
Just to make sure everyone is aware, I just made a commit to 12439 files
and finally bumped the ScummVM project version to GPLv3+.
We've discussed it in the past and the primary benefit for us is the
possibility to borrow GPLv3 projects' code. The first thing which will soon
land to master is https://github.com/scummvm/scummvm/pull/3463 which uses
GLAD, licensed under GPLv3.
Also, the license is forward-compatible, so we could still normally bring
GPLv2 code (but not back unless the authors grant it).
And of course, we can legally do the upgrade, since GPLv3 is technically
GPLv2+. I had an opportunity to ask this question from Richard Stallman
himself at the FOSDEM conference several years ago.
Thus, ScummVM 2.5.1 will be the last ScummVM release under GPLv2+. All the
code in the master from now on is GPLv3+.
Eugene
