Hi everyone! I'm Andrea Boscarino (aka AndywinXp on GitHub, and Bosca
mostly everywhere else, real life included);
I am a 26 yo guy with a computer engineer master's degree and a passion for
AI, audio programming, old school Adventure Games,
playing guitar/bass/piano/drums, hiking, and well... cooking (but that's
basically bound to happen to any italian folk :-P).
My contributions to ScummVM started a little more than a year ago when I
decided to try and fix a Digital iMUSE bug
in the SCUMM engine; nothing big, apparently, I just wanted to fix a
portion of a theme not being played until the end.
This escalated fairly quickly, so that I ended up learning the basics of
reverse engineering and rewriting the engine
from the ground up over the course of a year, mainly thanks to the support
of highly skilled people, such as sev, aquadran,
and later to eriktorbjorn for all the headache-inducing debugging process.
I also contributed some minor fixes to the walk code and text positioning
of SCUMM v7-8 games, in collaboration with athrxx.
My current plans for the future are:
- Rewrite DiMUSE for Grim Fandango (which shouldn't take as long as it
currently took me, since GRIM uses a slightly lighter
version of the COMI variant);
- Take a look at the audio engine for Moonbase Commander (SCUMM-HE), study
it, and possibly go through the same process I
went through with DiMUSE;
- Trying to become a better coder than I am now :-)
I'm so honored to be part of this team, full of creative, skilled and
collaborative people, and I hope to stick around for many years!
Please feel free to reach me out on Discord, or by mail if you encounter
any issue with my code.
Either that, or hit me up if you just need a pasta/risotto/pizza recipe.
Sending my best regards,
Andrea
