The way it was described to me was to "keep track of original game data." I
would also continue what I've been doing to research and acquire alternate
releases of games over different editions, different countries, etc.
Typically I would add detection entries, update the wiki and clarify code
documentation as necessary, and of course provide whatever information the
devs need if they decide to add support for a new variant.
