[scummvm-devel] ScummVM Android

Hello,

There's an option for the Android port, under the Backend tab (both under
Global Options and Game Options), that will make the cursor jump to where
the user touches the screen. You simply have to uncheck the checkbox for
"Touchpad mouse mode". It won't remove the cursor but it will otherwise
react as a direct touch control.

Our ScummVM app version on the Play Store is indeed behind; it's v2.5.0
stable, whereas our current stable is v2.5.1. Google has set some new rules
and standards for app updates to conform to, since November 2021, and our
Android port code needs more work to meet those requirements. The most
prominent requirement is to use Storage Access Framework to access external
storage memory and storage space that requires user specific authorization
in their latest version of the OS. There's more to do of course, as well,
to tweak and improve the port.

The truth of the matter is we need dedicated Android port developers, and
we don't have those currently -- not for quite a few years. We do want the
app to be on the Google Store, but we are also apprehensive of the mass
negative reviews it gets and will continue to get, if our release is not up
to our usual standards or does not run as expected on newer Android OS
versions, as Google keeps churning those out at a pace that we are
currently unable to keep up with.

Hope this helps,
Athanasios Antoniou
