[scummvm-devel] ScummVM 2.6.0: Release cycle started, master frozen

Hi all,

a few months have passed since we released our current stable release, ScummVM
2.5.1.

Since our last release we've seen an impressive number of improvements across
many parts of our project.
To all contributors: THANK YOU!

Considering these improvements, it is time to start a new release cycle -
prepare for ScummVM 2.6.0.

What's next?

Starting now, our master branch is FROZEN. This means that no big changes and
only bugfixes are allowed to our STABLE engines and code in COMMON.
Unstable/WIP engines and backends stay unfrozen.

Planned release schedule:

    June 05 (Sunday): Release branch (branch-2-6) created from master
    June 05 (Sunday): Public testing announcement
    June 06 (Monday): Master unfrozen, normal development in master resumed
    July 08 (Friday): Hard-freeze of branch-2-6, allowing only emergency bugfixes
    July 16 (Saturday): Final branch 2-6-0 created, *release tagged*, porters
start submitting builds
    August 01 (Monday): Public release

We identified two bugs that are considered as BLOCKER for this release:

    #13413    COMMON: Systematic crash after adding any new game in 2.6.0git
    #13507    GUI: Bad scaling behaviour in new icons GUI (details will follow
shortly)

During the release window, I recommend keeping an eye on
https://bugs.scummvm.org/report/18, just in case some really critical bugs show
up at the last minute.

Furthermore, it would be nice to have the following bugs fixed:

    #12719     BACKENDS: 3DS: ScummVM is crashing on startup in Pajama3
    #11753     BACKENDS: ANDROID (10+ / API 29+) - external storage is no longer
browsable
    #12329     BACKENDS: IOS: MP3 playback failing, libmad writing out of bounds
    #12032     BACKENDS: SDL: cursor drifting for game controller
    #11910     BACKENDS: Symbian - The numeric keypad gets stuck.
    #12775     BASE: The -g / --gfx-mode command-line option still handles the
old scaler names
    #11244     CLOUD: Crash when loading a save from the launcher
    #13096     GUI: Wrong list items are disabled in the SCUMM launcher
    #11500     GUI: Pressing escape in the GTK file chooser sometimes closes ScummVM
    #13499     GUI: Launcher loses the selected game in a filtered games list
after game options

    #11560     ADL: Unknown game variant for Ulyssey
    #13417     AGS: Can't start a games on BIG-Endian/AmigaOS4 : Unalbe to load
the room file 'room74.crm'.
