On skipping the intro right at the "Virgin" logo my MT-32 plays a short note (sounds like part of the metal sounds from the first scene, when the ram comes down on the anvil) and displays "Exc. Buffer Overflow", the very same short after until it finally enters the game.

There is no crash or warning on the console whatsoever, but it's also not normal behaviour.
I'm filing this to just record it, so that on a later occasion or crash this could possible be blamed ;-)
