Tested with: ScummVM git commit 2d6fda8c85dc58546d2cc57a7db0d77bb2b72e5c
Platform: Linux/amd64
Compiler: g++ 4.6.2

Make sure you have the modern theme set up. Open the Options menu, go to the paths tab, move the mouse over a clear button, wait for the tooltip to pop up.

Now there's to possibilites to make the graphical "X" disappear:
1) Move the mouse, but make sure you do not leave the button shape.
2) Click on the button.

Afterwards as long as you move the mouse cursor over the button the "X" will be gone in both cases. Only after moving away from the button the "X" image will appear again.
