 When you are in the area with the truck at the start of the game and it
 uses its horn to open the gate, you can hear it loudly from wherever you
 are in that environment even when far away. When you head southwest to the
 next area you hear an enemy warping in even though you can't see it
 happening as it isn't nearby.
