Comment:

 As a workaround:
 Could you try to simply type "/" and press Enter in the "Add Game..."
 screen, in the address text box?
 Does that change anything? It does for me in an Android OS 9 device.
 It should show some basic folders to navigate to like:
 - ScummVM data directory
 - sdCard

 For my device, the second option "sdCard" will allow me to navigate to the
 internal memory.
