 I had another look at this, and I still cannot reproduce.
 I tested both my own builds and the 64 bit intel daily build.
 I tested on 4 different systems (10.9 and 10.12 iMac, 10.15 MacBook Pro,
 and 11.5 M1 MacBook Air).

 This might be an issue specific to Mac OS 10.11, but that would be
 strange.

 Are you sure there is not something running on your mac that might be
 stealing the focus and causing the system cursor to appear?

 This might also be related to bug #12646.
