 When quitting with the keyboard shortcut, if the option to always return
 to the launcher when quitting a game is enabled, the game indeed quit to
 the launcher, but then immediately also closes the launcher.

 I saw this with current master (18ee050adf2) on a M1 Mac when quitting
 with CMD+Q.

 Quitting using the in-game menu works properly.
