Comment (by TiKevin83):

I'm not sure if it would be better to create a new ticket for this, but
what I've heard in the Humongous Entertainment speedrunning scene is that
SCUMMVM targets emulating at the speed of contemporary hardware at the
time of a game's release and not the performance of the original engine as
it might apply to modern hardware. I'm not sure if that's the exact
reason, but running games like Backyard Baseball in the original 32 bit
engine (there's a 16 bit launcher but the game engine itself is 32 bit)
certainly gives a competitive edge of ~30 seconds over running in SCUMMVM.

It would be preferred in the speedrunning scene to have the performance
match between SCUMM and the original game engines so we can compare times
more effectively. If not default, could this at least be done in a setting
 or in a "SCUMMVM-Speedrun" build?
