 I just bumped into this with the Steam version of the game. I wasn't using
 any modded assets and I didn't even know such a thing was possible until a
 search brought me to this page. I was able to resolve the issue by
 unchecking the "load modded assets" checkbox in the engine settings, even
 though, like I said, there weren't any modded assets loaded in the first
 place.
