 Sorry to reopen this, but the bug is still there.
 I just tried from the attached save game.

 You need to make sure that the skinny player *has a chess piece in his
 hand* and give a remark about Brittany.
 Only then will he "throw" a move.
 Once he did this the large player will comment on it and a little quarrel
 will start between the two.
 The skinny player will eventually place his piece back on the board and
 only NOW will the game be stuck.

 There is no more interaction possible, no more conversation lines will
 appear and i'm being left with quitting the game/scummvm.
