Comment:

 Thanks to this ticket I discovered that the nancy3 version I use for
 testing is a hacked-together later release with the main (only?)
 difference being an additional splash screen with the publisher's logo not
 present in the original release. The way they added it is different from
 the way later games include their splash screens, and that difference is
 the source of the weird behavior you described.
 I've pushed a fix for the issue so I'm marking this as resolved. I will
 need to do some more investigating on the differences between the versions
 to make sure nothing else is broken, but that will take a bit more time.
