 Can you clarify what is the Android OS version on the device you're trying
 to play the game on?

 The newer versions of Android (since 10 iirc) require to grant permission
 for an app to use a folder (and its subfolders) on external storage (which
 is basically anything outside the apps own folders). This permission is
 granted via Android's Storage Access Framework system (aka SAF).

 The instructions should be shown on a popup when starting the app, and
 also available on a tab on the new Help system. But they can also be found
