 This is now fixed on SDL Surface when subtitles are enabled and there are
 no third party .srt subtitles to display:
 c4b7b76bc31b728470f540d049cab2c4147f6c44

 SDL Surface still doesn't work when there are .srt subtitles to display,
 and I don't know if that can be made to work or not given the use of
 overlay. My interest was only in fixing the regression for users with
 default game files, like me =)

 I don't know if we want to keep this ticket open or not; I feel like the
 fixable bug has been fixed.
