 Problem is solved. Copying the Data files from the CD-ROM to a flash drive
 had changed the files from read-only to read/write. Running the program
 may have caused alteration of the data. Changed the copied data files to
 read-only (using their "Get Info" windows in Mac OS) and re-installed the
 game, after which SCUMMVM runs the program normally on my M4 Pro Mac Mini.
