 Thank you for the update, Sluicebox - I knew I had played Phantasmagoria
 on ScummVM some years back with no issues saving, so the regression in
 recent versions explains it.  I'm glad you were able to give an answer to
 another bug query as well.

 I managed to finish my playthrough before all of this came to light, but
 will definitely keep 2.8.0 in mind should I come across the issue in any
 other games (which I will of course make you aware of).  Thanks again for
 getting back to me so quickly, and hopefully it's not too arduous to
 resolve!
