This one is an original bug, because I clearly remembered encountering it
on DOS and aimed at replicating it. I tested it with the German CD
version.
If you activate the game pause at the outside Mystery Vortex, the four
floating foreground objects disappear. Also, if Sam and Max stand behind
those objects when you pause, part of their sprites are cut off as well.
What I guess is going on: The foreground sprites for some reason get into
conflict with the pause sign (or pause in general) and are earased as long
as it is present. That the sprites of Sam and Max partially vanish as well
could be due to them standing behind those sprites and their transparancy
areas (thus why the cut is a clean line).
Since that is not supposed to happen, perhaps the problem can be fixed?
Not game breaking, but clearly an original oversight.
EDIT: Some more testing revealed, that the save menu and quit game prompt
from the original GUI also cause the effect, but not the ones from
ScummVM. Also, the Lucasarts logo at the start also is affected by the
behavior, since pausing on that screen with original GUI blanks it out.
Seems to be some kind of bigger problem.
