 the thing about that middle row is that scummvm has 4 buttons there and
 ideally would have even more.

 This is because many many games it runs were originally in PC where the
 only interface was a keyboard, so there are a lot of keyboard keys used.


 Frankly, for me, the design being pretty is far far below being allowed to
 map any keyboard key I want to a flex style layout.

 Usually a game will only use 2-3 keyboard keys commonly, but for instance,
 grim fandango has a stupid inventory system where there is a key to toggle
 a inventory, a key to cycle forwards, a key to cycle back, a key to select
 the item, a key to put it away (the MC holds it in the world) a key to use
 it.

 It's impossible to use the gamepad for this.
