#16217: PRIVATE: Broken graphics in SDL Surface mode when subtitles are enabled

This is going to be a bit hard to explain...
I'm running ScummVM in SDL Surface graphics mode, because no one has yet
demonstrated to me any advantages of using OpenGL mode.
I'm using the GB version of Private Eye. Subtitles are enabled by default,
but I don't have any subtitles file for the game.
If I start the game from the the ScummVM launcher, I get a black screen
while the music is playing, and the mouse cursor is leaving trails. The
screen isn't updated when it should be, but it's not completely dead
because I do get the "Brooklyn Multimedia" logo after a while, at least.
I can get the graphics unstuck if I force the ScummVM GUI to display (e.g.
by pressing Ctrl+F5) and then resuming the game.
If I start the game from the command line, the graphics don't get stuck in
the first place.
Everything seems to work fine in OpenGL mode, or if I disable subtitles.
There are some ugly flashes of previous graphics if I skip a movie, but I
don't think that's a regression.
I noticed subtitles were added recently to the Hypno engine, but I didn't
notice any regressions there. Not yet, at least.
