 (EGA/DOS/English)

 Tested ScummVM versions:
 ScummVM 2.9.1 (May 24 2025 04:22:07)
 ScummVM 2.9.2pre11565-gfdcbc279765 (Jun 11 2025 11:58:08)
 OS: Windows 11 Enterprise 24H2 26100.6584

Castle of Dr. Brain, like several other SCI games, has an option titled
"Prefer digital sound effects". Unchecking it replaces digital audio
samples with sound effects synthesized by selected audio device. I noticed
that some digital sound effects will play regardless of the option status
if chosen audio device does not produce an equivalent sound effect.

Castle of Dr. Brain's title screen features repeating thunder sound
effects which are usually played back as digital samples. If digital sound
effects are disabled and audio device is set to either AdLib or MT-32
emulators, the game produces synthesized sounds of thunder. On the other
hand, setting audio device to PC Speaker, IBM PCjr or Creative Music
System emulator results in game playing digitized thunderbolts even with
digital sound effects set to off. On computers with such sound device
setups the sound of thunder is not supposed to be represented in any way,
which means that it is currently impossible to replicate accurate audio
setup for such device configurations using ScummVM. Otherwise, synthesized
sound effects work correctly for those audio device, as can be checked by
pressing on flamingos on the first gameplay screen.
