 I played the game (GOG version) until the end. Then I started a new game
 (Green Egg). I decided to try different courses of action to see different
 endings of the game. One of the endings is supposed to happen when August
 Scmidt discovered the body in my compartment. After that happened, the
 game crashed. I restarted the game and everything has been completely
 messed up since.

 Characters seem to get stuck in doorways – I can hear them say "excuse me"
 when I walk past them, but I never see them, and they never go where they
 are supposed to. Anna Wolf has been standing in the restaurant car for
 hours, doing nothing, and two Russians (Vassili Alexandrovich Obolensky
 and Tatiana Obolenskya) have been having dinner for hours. I can't go to
 bed to move on to the next day and I miss all the important dialogue.

 Rewinding or starting a new game does not help – Anna Wolf gets stuck in
 the restaurant car, no matter what, and that seems to then mess up the
 entire game from then on.
