#17095: Lure of the Temptress: Autosave crashes with "NPC character got an
excessive number of pending actions"
----------------------------------+--------------------------
Reporter: henrik-wittenberg | Owner: (none)
Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: normal | Component: Engine: Lure
Version: | Keywords:
Game: Lure of the Temptress |
----------------------------------+--------------------------
**Summary:**
Loading the Autosave slot for "Lure of the Temptress" immediately crashes
into the debugger with "ERROR: NPC character got an excessive number of
pending actions!" — no player action is possible before the crash occurs.
**ScummVM version:** 2.9.0 (Flatpak, io.github.sharkwouter.Minigalaxy
bundled build / also reproduced with org.scummvm.ScummVM Flatpak)
**Platform:** openSUSE Aeon (immutable, Btrfs, transactional-update),
Linux x86_64, GNOME/Wayland
**Game:** Lure of the Temptress (VGA/DOS/English), GOG.com release,
installed via Minigalaxy
**Game language:** English
**Game version:** VGA/DOS floppy version (as shown in ScummVM launcher:
"Lure of the Temptress (VGA/DOS/English)")
**Bug details / reproduction steps:**
1. Launch "Lure of the Temptress" via ScummVM launcher.
2. Select "Load..." and load the "Autosave" slot (slot 0).
3. Immediately after the scene loads (no player input given), the game
freezes and ScummVM drops into its built-in debugger console with:
```
ERROR: NPC character got an excessive number of pending actions!
```
4. Typing `exit` in the debugger console does not resolve it — the game
does not resume playably afterward.
The crash is 100% reproducible on this specific autosave file and occurs
before any player action can be taken.
**Additional context:**
A manually-created save (slot "2", saved shortly before the autosave in
question) does NOT exhibit this issue and loads fine. The scene involved
is a small courtyard/ruins area with a single NPC standing near an
archway; the player character (Diermot) had just approached and turned to
face the NPC when the autosave was presumably taken.
**Attachments:**
- lure.000 (autosave that triggers the crash)
- lure.001 (manual save shortly before, loads fine — included for
comparison)
**Daily build tested:** No, not yet tested against the latest daily/git
build.
