Comment (by cjover-n):

At this point, whether the reference is ScummVM 2.8.0 or the DOSBox
version I previously attached is ultimately secondary.

What matters to me is that when selecting the IBM sound emulation option,
it should not sound like it does in the current versions (as demonstrated
in the audio samples I attached). The current output is significantly
harsher and not consistent with what I experienced originally.

After testing with Tandy enabled in DOSBox, the sound also changes
substantially there, so I am no longer certain whether my original machine
was actually using Tandy sound or not. I am also not fully certain whether
the system I had at the time was technically equivalent to a PCjr.

However, what I am 100% certain about is that the game sounded like it
does in ScummVM 2.8.0. That is the sound I experienced on my original
 hardware.

For me, that is the reference point. I would simply like to be able to
emulate the game in a way that reproduces the audio as it behaved in
2.8.0, because that matches the original experience.
