New description:
I noticed Willy Beamish was added recently, and was excited to give it a
test with an ISO backup from my Talkie CD--- Everything more or less runs
well, with a graphical glitch here or there (''Which I expected, from the
compatibility chart, no biggie.'')
However, something seems to be locking up on the backend when it comes to
cutscenes in the Talkie version, right from the jump. Right in the very
first scene, Mrs. Glass broke when I tried to examine her. I did this
right about when she started her "''Write what you'll do this summer''"
speech--- Causing textboxes to overlap, and strangely, her sprites to
duplicate.
She then repeats the same text once the examine text is over, and the game
breaks entirely--- No crash, but I'm unable to properly play.
I restart, hoping to avoid that. Next try, I do get past the school. Once
home, I am unable to enter the house unless I exit the screen and return,
even when saving / reloading. Strange, but potentially related?
(''Apologies if this counts as a second reportable bug.'')
At the dinner table, though, is the most egregious example of this bug I
found in my time playing. There's a long exposition cutscene before
everyone's dismissed... I am able to explore the house somewhat afterward,
but reentering the dining room at all replays that long dinner cutscene
again--- Which is certainly not supposed to happen, and the game crashes
immediately afterward. I thought ahead this time and got a save of this.
Considering how soon in the game these cutscene errors occur, and how the
game is marked as completable, I'm assuming something strange is going on
here.
Playing on Windows 11, with an English CD DOS Talkie version of the game.
Unsure which release, since I made the ISO image years ago--- Can confirm
it worked in DOSbox, however.
