 Aha. Replicated on Linux x86_64 with latest git master using:
 Running Darby the Dragon (Windows/English)
 book.ini: 7e3404c559d058521fff2aebe5c427a8, 2545 bytes.
 page99.rsc: 49cc6b16caa1c5ec7d94a3c47eed9a02, 1286480 bytes.

 Saved two savegames, quit and tried loading at the Launcher and the
 reported error occurs...
