Comment (by antoniou79):

So, one issue here is that this is seemingly a version that we don't know
 about.

Could you provide a bit more info about your version/edition (language,
year of release, possible collectors edition?, digital or physical
 box/jewel case etc.) ?

The other issue is that when you add the fallback detected entry
(Riven/Unknown/Windows) and run it anyway, the engine then fails to find
(or open) the a_Data.MHK file, which is puzzling since it should be there
in the game folder as shown in your screenshots. Plus, if it wasn't, the
engine would had failed at an earlier step when launching the game,
telling you that you're missing game data files.

Perhaps this is some an odd Mac OS file access issue that I'm not familiar
 with.

 Some things to check:
 - Does testing with a daily build change anything?
 - If you run ScummVM with a clean configuration file, does this change
anything when running Riven? (before removing your scummvm.ini make sure
you back it up first, in order to restore it after testing, if needed)
 - Can you add and run other games with ScummVM without issues? (you can
try with a demo or freeware game from the ScummVM site if you need a quick
 test)
