Hello! Thanks for reporting. The save contains clues, but to reproduce we
need to know how to go from the working state to the lockup before the
save.
These are the same symptoms as a script bug I fixed in 2019:
ad1ebccb3a67473a4e7293cf0ec22b3cf7a508f8
That was a bug in the original game, and there are other game bugs that
randomly lockup. The internet is full of search results like you've
posted; they've been happening since the 1990s and still do in dosbox and
original hardware. You'll also get lots of results for "church" because
there are multiple churches in this game, and the other one (Altotting)
has its own unrelated lockup bug. GK2 is confusing! In ScummVM we have
script patches for every GK2 lockup I am aware of, but of course earlier
ScummVM versions are still affected.
The first thing to do is to make sure that our fixes are being applied to
your game:
1. Run scummvm like this: `scummvm --debugflags=patcher`
2. Load a working GK2 game
3. Exit the church to the church entrance
4. Upload or paste `scummvm.log` to this ticket
You may have discovered a new bug, but since we don't know how to
reproduce it and GK2 lockup bugs are difficult, we need to rule out other
possibilities:
1. Where did you get your GK2 files? Original CDs, GOG, etc? Only
legitimate sources are supported. If files have different bytes than the
original then our patcher might not be able to apply our fixes.
2. Are you doing anything weird? You mentioned using the debugger, so
you're a power user, could you be modding or warping around instead of
normal gameplay? It's easy to get games into lockup states that way. To be
clear: I'm accusing you of being fun =)
3. Could a version of ScummVM from years ago have been involved somewhere
in this process? Maybe somehow a save game got used that was created with
an earlier version before the patch?
