 It appears timing sensitive. If I run in Valgrind, it always works.
 Without Valgrind, it almost never works. I do have a fairly new computer,
 but I don't know how relevant that id.

 There is chicory in atleast one more room (I forget which). The line
 worked there though I only tried it once. It may be relevant to compare
 the implementation of the two.
