Comment (by Hamborn):
Hi tag2025, Hi ScummVm Team
Thank you for your work. You are keeping these games alive for the future.
Alpha Polaris is currently unplayable without ScummVM because of the
invisible NPCs and the fridge bug in the kitchen with the original
executable (the door opens and immediately slams shut again).
I read that the checksums for the German files are missing from the
detection tables, which would explain why ScummVM only loads the English
version here. I have the English retail CD version, and I added the German
patch from CompiWare:
https://www.compiware-forum.de/downloads/file/806-alpha-polaris-german-
patch/#versions
After installing the patch, these two files are present next to data.dcp:
german speech pack.dcp – MD5 7edc80b9db9dca7dd6f17be0d2bd282a
(Filesize 46748 KB)
german_language_pack.dcp – MD5 3de1840437b74677aa90027a16aa64ee
(Filesize 18801 KB)
The data.dcp MD5 on the CD Version is f12e71d02e6305fb516360acff5810c3
(Filesize 730524 KB)
Note on load order: with the original executable, the German audio is only
used if the speech pack is loaded before data.dcp. Renaming it to "agerman
speech pack.dcp" works, "xgerman speech pack.dcp" does not. This suggests
the packages are loaded alphabetically, and the first one wins.
Please let me know if you need anything else. I am happy to test builds.
Thanks again! Christian
