It feels like in ScummVM, rubber-band selection only considers the
bounding boxes of the objects, not their masks. This is particularly
annoying when you're trying to use rubber-band selection to select a stack
of small objects in a crowded inventory window filled with irregularly
shaped objects. In ScummVM it's very easy to select objects that you
 didn't intend to select.

It's hard to say exactly what the behavior in ScummVM is, because I often
seem to end up with multiple selected objects when I don't intend to, even
when not using rubber-band selection. I ''think'' it may have something to
do with whether or not I already have an object selected. And it's
''very'' easy to already have an object selected.
