I think that SDL_mixer is based on TiMidity 1.xx that is now discontinued by
its original author. I do not know if the author were unaware that other
people had restarted working on TiMidity (named now TiMidity++ and is at
versions 2.10.x (and 2.11.x in beta releases)) or if SDL_mixer predates the
TiMidity revival.

Anyway, I think that the work we do now could be integrated in SDL_mixer (or
even better in SDL) to add MIDI support to SDL. That could then be used to
all the other game 'emulators' (FreeSCI, exult, ...) using MIDI on Linux.
